Bridgeport Kitchener Waterloo

On the east end of Waterloo lies one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city, Bridgeport. This gem brings the serenity that country living has to offer with the convenience of being a short bus, bike, or car ride to Uptown Waterloo. Due to its popularity, Bridgeport has expanded over the years to include neighbourhoods like Bridgeport North, Bridgeport East, and Bridgeport West.

Kiwanis Park is a local favourite, located just a few minutes away in Bridgeport North. Described as the ultimate park, it has trails, ultimate frisbee fields, a dog park for your furry friends, and an outdoor pool. 

During the autumn months, you can take the family for a day of fun at the pumpkin patch at Good Family Pumpkins on Bridge Street East. Schooling / Child Care

Students living in Bridgeport have the choice of attending Bridgeport Public School, located across the Bridgeport Bridge. This elementary school takes students from JK to Grade 6. Students can continue their schooling at Margaret Avenue Public School, which takes students from JK to Grade 8. Once they’re ready for highschool, children will attend Bluevale Collegiate Institute for Grade 9 to 12. 

Looking to send your children to Catholic school? St. Teresa Catholic Elementary School is a short bus ride down Lancaster and takes students from JK to Grade 8. Once they’ve graduated, they’ll attend St. David Catholic Secondary School. 

The YWCA Bridgeport Childcare Centre is also directly in the Bridgeport neighbourhood, providing care for children ages 2 and up.

Bridgeport, although it has a country-side atmosphere, still has great access to public transit. You can commute easily by jumping on the expressway at Bridgeport Road or Lancaster Street. GRT bus routes run regularly throughout the neighbourhood, which will take you to the Conestoga Mall transit hub. Here you can grab the ION to head Uptown Waterloo, Downtown Kitchener, and all the way to Fairview Mall.

One of the best things about living in Bridgeport are the beautiful green spaces that can be found within the neighbourhood. You can walk the Grand River’s banks on the Bridgeport Trail, a short path that connects 3 of Bridgeport’s largest parks.

Joe Thompson Park is located on the southside of Bridgeport with views of the river, where residents can enjoy the Bridgeport Sportsfields – a collection of 4 ball diamonds and a soccer field. 

Across from Joe Thompson Park is the Bridgeport Community Centre. The centre is open for sports equipment rentals and they often host children’s events (like the annual summer day camp.) Your family will also be able to go skating or play hockey on their indoor and outdoor rinks.
