Nestled on Waterloo’s west end is the newly developed neighbourhood of Columbia Forest. This community is located in the highly sought after Laurel Creek area. Immerse yourself in the forest without being removed from all the action Waterloo has to offer.

On Waterloo’s west side is Columbia Forest, a community of pretty homes with friendly neighbours. Most of the homes in Columbia Forest were constructed relatively recently and feature all the new-home amenities that people want in Waterloo housing.

Sir John A. MacDonald Secondary School is in Columbia Forest. A few Columbia Forest students are bussed to Edna Staebler Public School in Clair Hills which offers an option for French immersion.

Catholic students are bussed to St. Nicholas Catholic School, until they reach high school, where they’ll be bussed to Resurrection Catholic Secondary School.

Location

Columbia Forest is located on the northwest end of Waterloo; the community is situated within a vast pine forest, allowing residents to enjoy the surrounding green space. Living in Columbia Forest doesn’t mean you’re alone in the woods though, the neighbourhood is just a short drive from major shopping centres like Costco Waterloo.

Columbia Forest may be tucked away, but it’s by no means out of the way! At the south end of the neighbourhood, you will be able to find the newly constructed Costco Waterloo location. Here residents will find anything their household needs from food to light fixtures; Costco is your one-stop-shop. 

If you’re not a fan of buying in bulk, or just not interested, just a short drive away is the Rummelhardt Plaza, here you’ll find organic health food store Goodness Me. Do you have an itch for home projects? Well, Mark’s Work Wearhouse and Canadian Tire can assist you. You’ll be able to find what you’re looking for, and not have to venture far. 

Dutchie’s Fresh Market is also located in the adjacent Rummelhardt Plaza. Support your local farmers and get some of the best deals on fresh produce in town! 

Take a short trip east down Columbia Street until you hit Fischer-Hallman Road, and you’ll be at Columbia Plaza. Here you can find Sobeys Columbia location.

On the northeast side of the neighbourhood at Laurelwood Drive and Erbsville Road is Laurelwood Commons, a collection of shops that are just a stone’s throw away. Here you can find Food Basics Laurelwood, Shopper Drug Mart and a Dollarama. 

Columbia Forest residents don’t have to worry about having to find something to do in their free time, if you follow Erbsville Road, down Ira Needles, you’ll find The Boardwalk Waterloo. You will find an assortment of shops, including Marshalls, Moore’s and Carter’s & Oshkosh Boutique. 

If you’re more in the mood to take in a movie, then you’re in luck; Landmark Cinemas at the boardwalk has ten screens, an arcade and a wide variety of choices for in theatre snacks! 

Restaurants & Food Services 

When you live in Columbia Woods, you have all sorts of restaurants to try within minutes of your front door—looking to try a twist on a family favourite? Panago Pizza, located at Erb St W. and Ira Needles offers delicious pizza with a twist, their butter chicken and coconut curry fusion pizzas are a great way to try pizza in a new way. 

If you’re looking to set the mood for a night out with friends then head over to Symposium Cafe & Lounge. Enjoy delicious comfort food, a wide selection of local IPAs and a fully stocked bar, living in the suburbs doesn’t mean you can’t have a decent night out on the town!

Schooling / Child Care

Elementary students living in Columbia Woods can attend Vista Hills Public School located on the south end of Abraham Erb Public School on the north end. For those wishing to join a catholic school, St. Nicholas Catholic School offers grades PK-8. 

One of the best parts about living in Columbia Woods is having Sir John A Mcdonald right in the neighbourhood, making it easier for secondary students to get to and from classes. Students wishing to pursue a Catholic education can attend Resurrection Catholic Secondary School.

Columbia Forest is tucked away on the northern side of Waterloo, but thanks to the GRT system, residents aren’t isolated by any means. Within the neighbourhood bus route, 31 gives residents a direct line to the Conestoga Mall Transit Terminal that connects with many other buses and the Light Rail Transit System. To travel to Waterloo’s Boardwalk, route 13 loops through the northern end and Laurelwood or catches either the 202 or the 29 that goes along Erbsville Road.

Parks

The highlight of living in Columbia Woods is how much green space there is to explore, the surrounding forest has been preserved, and trails have been added for residents to venture safely. On the northern end of the neighbourhood are smaller wetlands as well; if you’re an animal lover or just looking to get closer to nature Columbia Woods is perfect for you. 

Black Cherry Park is located in the centre of Columbia Woods on Black Cherry Street, the park has playground equipment and is one of the entrance points to the GeoTime Trail. 

St. Moritz Park on the south end of the community has a beautiful view of the sprawling countryside adjacent to Columbia Woods. This park has two tennis courts, a soccer field, playground equipment and is the southern entrance to the GeoTime Trail. 

The GeoTime Trail winds through the Winterburg Forest north, through Forested Hills up until Monastery Creek, the trail has portions dedicated for bikes and off Terran hiking.
