Grand River North is a newer neighbourhood bordering Breslau that’s steadily growing.

Located in Kitchener East, the community is built for families who truly enjoy the great outdoors.

You’ll find most of the homes are detached houses built between 1981 – 2001 and almost all are owned (97% to be exact.)  Buying a home in either Grand River North or Grand River South is an excellent choice if you have an active family lifestyle.

Generally, public school children who live in Grand River North start their school journey at Mackenzie King Public School and attend until grade 6. They finish grades 7 & 8 at Stanely Park Public School before going on to high school at Grand River Collegiate Institute.

Catholic school students begin at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School from JK – grade 8. After graduation, they take school bus transportation to St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School to complete their high school education.

A great perk of Grand River North is it has easy access to Highway 7, making it ideal for those commuting to work to Downtown Kitchener or Guelph. There are also plenty of outdoor escapes, like historic Kolb Park and the Grand River Trail.

Grand River North has a unique location in Waterloo Region. It sits on the East side of Kitchener bordering Breslau, an area that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. Victoria Street is a main artery for Kitchener drivers and is lined with shops, restaurants, pubs, and services from dentists to valet car washes. Hungry? Try Korner Kitchen or grab dinner at the Victoria Street Market. The Market offers over 6,000 square feet of local, fresh foods including seafood, a butcher, and even a dry-ageing cooler. 

Just across Victoria Street, you’ll find a hub of events and activities – Bingemans! Schooling / Child Care

For the most part, Grand River North students take school bus transportation throughout their education in Waterloo Region.

Public school students will attend Mackenzie King Public School from JK – grade 6 and complete their middle schooling at Stanley Park Public School. Stanley Park also offers students French Immersion and provides access to Band and String programs. For high school, Grand River North and South students all attend Grand River Collegiate Institute.

Catholic school students start at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School. This elementary school provides multiple activities throughout the day to help elevate your child’s learning experience. From there, students complete their high school education at St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School.

Grand River Transit (GRT) has three different routes that run in the area, mainly along the perimeter. They can connect you to some of the main transit hubs of the region like Fairview Mall and Conestoga Mall. You can also transfer to the ION Light Transit Rail to travel into the heart of the city: Uptown Waterloo and Downtown Kitchener.

Most residents in both Grand River North and South travel via personal vehicle, with only 3% of residents actively using the GRT. This is partially because these neighbourhoods and the surrounding area are still growing, and partially because Highway 7 is so close by.

But with the growing population in the area, it’s safe to assume more public transit access will come in future years.

Another hidden gem of the community is Natchen Hill, located in Grand River South just minutes away. This wooded park provides a little bit of peace and quiet for locals and playtime for families.
