Location

The Township of Wellesley lies outside of Waterloo to the North-West. It’s a quiet, rural area comprised of several small communities: St. Clements, Heidelberg, Hawkesville, Linwood, and Wellesley.

Wellesley has a close relationship with Kitchener and Waterloo as many residents choose to move from urban to rural living, especially as they age.  It’s also popular to leave the city for a visit to a cottage on Paradise Lake or to pick a  pumpkin at Nauman’s Farm, both lovely features of Wellesley Township.

This township has gradually transformed into a haven for families looking to escape the city. Immerse yourself in the festivities with family and friends, such as Lindwood’s Snofest, Canada Day in Hawkesville, and the annual fall fair.

Wellesley Township is also home to the Apple Butter and Cheese Festival which takes place every autumn. Take a short trip to the Conestogo Dam and find a plentiful opportunity for fishing, hiking, bird-watching, and geocaching.

This Mennonite township also offers various community centres including one in Hawkesville, Linwood, St. Clements and Wellesley itself. The Linwood Recreation Complex offers the largest space available to rent, seating up to 400 people. In Linwood, the Wellesley & District Lions Club also runs a number of important events during the year including; weekly bingo, Tree of Light, community Easter egg hunts, and summer camps.

Schooling / Child Care

Together, the Waterloo Region District School Board and Waterloo Catholic District School Board operate three elementary schools in the Township of Wellesley. Both Linwood and St. Clements offer French Immersion starting in Grade 1. 

After Grade 8, parents will have the options as to which high school their children will attend. This is decide by district as well as transportation options such as school busses in their area.

Wellesley also offers multiple preschool and daycare options if you’re a young family. Based on your needs, you can choose from a list of licensed home child care programs, supported through the Region of Waterloo. There are also cooperative options such as Wellesley Cooperative Preschool, where parents are involved in the care as well as volunteers, and other preschools such as Inspiring Minds Early Learning Centre.

Transit

Kiwanis Transit provides specialized transit services for residents with mobility issues and unique transportation needs. Wellesley also thrives on taxi and Uber services connecting the surrounding amenities.

There are many trails and paths along the various ponds and the expansive Grand River in and around the township. For those who like to run and bike, this makes use of trails and cycling an efficient means of getting from home to school and work. This area is also populated with plenty of taxis and Uber drivers.
